IMPORTANT DEADLINE - March 15, 2012
ADA Compliance On All ATMs Is Required

What is it and what does this mean to you?

The 2010 Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design gives very specific remedies for upgrading ATMs by March 15, 2012 to be able serve users with all manner of physical disabilities. Some of the required updated standards include:

  •     Voice Guidance requirements
  •     Braille Instruction requirements
  •     Height and Reach requirements
  •     Clear Floor Space requirements
  •     Input Device requirements
  •     Numeric Keypad requirements
  •     Function Keys requirements
  •     Display Screen requirements

All ATM(s) will need to be fully compliant with these regulations by the March 15, 2012 deadline.

This may be as simple for you as a software upgrade or the need for Braille stickers, or could potentially mean the need for an ATM replacement if your ATM does not have an upgrade available as with a limited number of the older ATMs that are still in the field.

While we recognize this may be somewhat of an unexpected financial burden for you, please understand that it will be for us as well, as we need to service all of our customers so that everyone will be protected and in full compliance when the deadline rolls around.

We want you to know that we are going to facilitate all upgrades with no labor expense being charged, and we will also be passing along our cost with zero markup, for any upgrade parts/kits that are required. We will also be providing the required Braille stickers at our expense.

We are currently working through our roll out plan in layers, to ensure the most cost-effective upgrade and/or replacement path is achieved at all Ocean ATM locations.

Surcharge Fee Disclosure Stickers

Also Require Immediate Attention

Lawsuits against financial institutions and ATM owners and operators that do not display surcharge-fee disclosure stickers are on the rise.  Under EFTA Regulation E, an ATM operator is required to provide an external and onscreen notice of the fee for a transaction, and allow the consumer to opt out before the fee is charged.

ATM owners and operators are at risk of being sued should the ATM machine not have a fee sticker physically visible.

In order to stay in compliance, our network requires that we keep photos of all ATMs that we process for, on file.

Please take a moment to provide us with a digital photo of your ATM machine with the surcharge-fee disclosure sticker displayed.
